Monday, 23 January 2012Legacy Tour to Lake Eyre & Woomera80 places on board a Cobham Aviation jet are available to fly over the abundant Lake Eyre which has experienced a once-in-fifty-years flood. On March 3 Legacy is offering an experience that only money can buy.
80 places on board a Cobham Aviation jet are available to fly over the abundant Lake Eyre which has experienced a once-in-fifty-years flood. The size of Holland, Lake Eyre Basin was filled to capacity in 2011, providing habitat to birdlife breeding in astonishing numbers. With summer rains in the north, it may fill to capacity again with fresh floodwaters.
In addition to the Lake Eyre flyover, the touring party will visit the Woomera Prohibited Area.
Under command of the site Director, Legacy has gained special access to the restricted area.
Today the Australian Government uses the site for testing of missiles, aircraft and weapons. Additionally, the Prohibited Area is leased to foreign Governments and private companies for testing of weapons, rockets and drone aircraft. The Woomera Range is booked for tests extending well into 2023.
In June 2010 the Japanese space probe Hayabusa landed on the Woomera Test Range after visiting the asteroid 25143 Itokawa.
The Legacy tour will visit Woomera on a day (March 3, 2012) when preparations will be underway for C130 Hercules flight trials, explosive trials and a space shot.
“Today, public access to Woomera is restricted, and tours of the rocket range are all but impossible. For those with an interest in birdlife and the environment, history, aviation, aeronautics or military hardware, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity”, said Legacy CEO, Rainer Jozeps.
At a cost of only $750, the one day trip on March 3, 2012, is expected to fill up quickly.
Bookings at Legacy on (08) 8231 9812 or by filling out the booking form

Defence Services Asia
Defence Services Asia 2012 (DSA 2012) is one of the region’s major tri-Service defence exhibitions and 25,000 trade visitors including over 200 VIP delegations from 35 countries are expected to attend.
The Team Australia stand at DSA 2012 will be an open plan design with exhibitors having individual ‘pods’ (4sqm) each providing a lockable storage cupboard, bench space sufficient to accommodate a laptop computer. There will also be wall space for display of exhibitor name and flat-screen TV or promotional material and bar stool seating. The Australian Defence Force will be supporting Team Australia at DSA 2012 through the presence of senior uniformed personnel.
Applications are also invited from defence industry representatives who wish to attend the exhibition but do not wish to take dedicated display floor space on the stand. These participants will have access to common floor space (use of meeting and storage rooms and refreshment facilities) and export facilitation assistance on an equal basis with exhibiting participants.
Malaysia and Singapore Aerospace and Maritime – Focused Trade Mission
In association with DSA 2012, Team Australia is planning a maritime and aerospace trade mission to Malaysia and Singapore to follow up on the exposure gained for Australian defence industry by the Team Australia presence at LIMA 2011 and the 2012 Singapore Airshow. Companies in the maritime and aerospace maintenance, repair and overhaul; aircraft life extension; maritime and aerospace components and electronic systems sectors are encouraged to apply for participation.
Places for both activities are limited! Applications must be submitted prior to 8 February 2012 in order to be considered.
If the number of applications also exceeds available positions on the Team Australia stand and on the mission, the following criteria will be used as part of the assessment process. Companies that have submitted an application and have been deemed to support a Priority or Strategic Industry Capability will be exempt from this process.
- Applicability of the product or service to a Defence environment
- Country of origin for manufacture of product, service delivery and Intellectual Property (IP)
- Degree to which the product or service directly supports the ADF
- Degree to which the product or service is unique or ‘niche’
- Company’s past performance and reputation, particularly in regard to Team Australia activities.

These terms and conditions are outlined in the Terms and Conditions for Participating in a Team Australia Event and can also be found on the Team Australia website (www.defence.gov.au/teamaustralia).

Tuesday, 27 September 2011Women granted right to fight on the front lines Minister for Defence Stephen Smith and Minister for Defence Science and Personnel Warren Snowdon today announced that the Government has formally agreed to the removal of gender restrictions from Australian Defence Force (ADF) combat roles
Minister for Defence
Stephen Smith and Minister for Defence Science and Personnel Warren Snowdon
today announced that the Government has formally agreed to the removal of
gender restrictions from Australian Defence Force (ADF) combat roles.
Women will now be able to
work in any position in the ADF, including combat roles, provided they have the
ability to meet all of the demands of the role.
Women currently are
eligible to serve in 93 per cent of employment categories, are now serving in
command positions and on military operations overseas. More are reaching senior
levels.
This decision follows on
from the Minister for Defence’s announcement on 11 April that the Chief of the
Defence Force would bring forward for implementation by the Government the
opening up of all roles in the ADF to women on the basis that determination for
suitability for roles in the ADF is to be based on their ability to perform in
the role, not gender.
Roles to be open in the
future to women from which women were previously excluded are: Navy Clearance
Divers and Mine Clearance Diver Officers; Air Force Airfield Defence Guards and
Ground Defence Officers; and Army Infantry and Armoured Corps and some Army
Artillery roles.
Mr Smith said a
comprehensive implementation plan will now be finalised by Defence for the
integration of women into combat roles. This will be considered by Government
by the first quarter of next year.
Defence will draw on the
experience gained from opening more categories and positions to women over the
last two decades and undertake additional research to enable implementation of
the Government’s decision.
This new policy will be
fully implemented within five years. Implementation is a high priority for the
Government and for Defence, and Defence will provide regular reports to
Government on implementation progress.
Mr Snowdon said women have
a long and proud history of serving in the ADF. “This decision is a positive
step, enhancing equality among the men and women who proudly wear the uniform.”
“Defence is committed to
creating a work environment where all personnel are treated fairly and with
respect. Developing the implemented plan is central to this,” Mr Snowdon
said.
As at 1 August 2011, 335
women were serving on current overseas operations representing more than 10
percent of the total overseas deployed force.
