  SADILP

South Australian Defence Industry Leadership Program (SADILP)

Since the launch of SADILP in 2010, the program has continued to evolve with strategic partnerships formed and the establishment of a program alumni. Good news stories about the program continue to circulate within the industry. The DTC now has a waiting list for the program in 2012. SADILP's success is attributed to the depth and breadth of industry engagement, with key industry representation on each program. The wealth of knowledge and experience that is shared contributes to the continuous circle of learning and development.

What is SADILP?

SADILP is a targeted, action based and defence oriented professional program over eight months for selected senior company management. It combines:
  • Facilitated learning workshops
  • Cutting edge presentations from senior defence/industry specialists
  • Access to globally recognised, on-line leadership resources
  • Site visits to key infrastructure
  • Access and opportunity to build genuine and relevant industry relationships.

Professional development occurs with participants from every sector of the industry who discover new perspectives on their chosen field, while developing invaluable, long lasting professional relationships.

Participants are required to complete carefully conceived and comprehensive Concept Papers that not only validate learning throughout the program, but also contribute to the ongoing development of the State’s future defence intellectual infrastructure. Respected sector representatives advise participants on concepts for presentation to a senior Government and industry panel at the close of the program.

Why was SADILP developed?

Chief Executives from within Prime Organisations* and Small to Medium Enterprises reached a consensus, that the defence industry needed to provide a succession plan for current leaders to capture and pass on the extensive knowledge held within the industry.  Defence Teaming Centre member companies also identified a clear need to have a process that would assist them in overcoming barriers to contracting.  SADILP equips emerging leaders with the necessary skills in communication and negotiation to do so.

How is SADILP funded?

The SADILP was born out of the Defence Industry Workforce Action Plan (DIWAP) consultation process.  Through strategic planning and consultation with key industry executives, the need for a state level leadership program was identified.  The project is partially funded through the South Australian Government Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology (DFEEST)

Who is SADILP’s Patron?

His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce AC CSC RANR Governor of South Australia is the SADILP Patron.

Who is SADILP for?

The program is targeted at:

  • SME Business Owners
  • Emerging Leaders
  • Business Development or Frontline Managers
  • Division/Departmental/Unit Leaders

The program offers an accreditation pathway to an AQTF Advanced Diploma of Management Qualification.  This is designed to support major structural reform within the Defence Sector in Australia and the ongoing career progression of individuals who participate in the program.

What are the benefits of SADILP?

One of the significant benefits of the SADILP is the industry-wide participation, which brings a diverse range of individuals together who work at various levels within their organisations from across Defence and other related industry sectors.  The 2010 & 2011 participants unanimously attributed the broad industry base as being of exceptional value in terms of personal learning, development and relationship building, including those who had previously undertaken in-house leadership programs.

How can you get involved in SADILP?

The SADILP enables professional and personal development within a defence industry context as this relates specifically to South Australian defence industry and defence support requirements.

The DTC will call for nominations for the 2012 SADILP program towards the end of 2011, targeting  25 participants. This process is contestable and successful participants will be notified early in 2012. Successful applicants will be those who present a strong case for individual and industry benefit. Participants will be chosen by a joint independent panel.

If you think you:

  • need a deeper knowledge of our South Australian defence industry,
  •   would like to develop an ability to influence and lead your organization, and
  •   want to have the opportunity to demonstrate collaborative creative thinking on industry strategy,

Be sure to get in early!
