The DTC host monthly Business Development Breakfasts, held the first Tuesday of each month. The aim of the breakfast is to offer an informal setting for the discussion of current Defence Industry business development news and to provide DTC members with an opportunity to network in a relaxed setting. Breakfast is at cost to attendees.

| | | | | Wednesday 8 | Piper Alderman No Nonsense IP Seminar | | Patents, designs and trade secrets
5.15pm for a 5.30pm start Piper Alderman Offices 167 Flinders St, Adelaide Tim O’Callaghan and Tim Clark of Piper Alderman Lawyers bring their extensive experience from both IP commercial and litigation matters to give a lively presentation using a range of real like examples to illustrate the issues, reinforcing that proper IP management and protection should relate to the overall business objectives and strategy. In the third seminar of the series, Piper Alderman will provide expertise on patents, designs and trade secrets, discussing what they are, how they work, advantages/disadvantages and whether the cost of a patent or design with be worth the benefit.

Cost: Fully funded by Enterprise Connect "Successful Defence Exporting" is a unique and practical one-day training and networking workshop, delivered by industry experts. It has been designed to provide like-minded participants with an understanding of the “What, Who and How” elements of the Defence exporting process. The comprehensive nature of the course makes it ideal for both first-time and experienced Defence exporters, as well as those seeking to engage in Defence’s Global Supply Chain Program. Key topics covered by this workshop include; - Understanding the challenges and complexities of the Global Defence Market
- The Australian Defence environment and paths to export
- Export Readiness
- Supplier Continuous Improvement Program and the Defence Exporting Excellence Module
- Defence Global Supply Chain Program
- Five Elements of Successful Defence Exporting: Strategy & Implementation; Commercial Acumen; Product / Service Management; Quality Accreditation & Compliance; and Crossing Barriers to Export

Cost: Workshops, industry visits and coaching fully funded through Enterprise Connect
The DTC Defence SMEs Lean Development Program will assist defence industry SME’s to understand the lean planning, concepts and tools that will result in business improvement practices through lean leadership and culture change.
The DTC Defence SMEs Lean Development Program consists of:
1. One day workshop “DTC Lean Workshop for Defence SMEs” with Alister Lee from Lean Experience on 23rd February 2012, focusing on: - Defence Strategic Reform Program (SRP) and its relevance to SMEs - The evolution of process improvement - A structured approach to improvement - Process management - Sustaining improvement - Scenario and simulation case studies
2. Industry visits to Sage Automation and ZF Lemforder to see successfully implemented lean business improvement practices
3. Ten participants will take part in a 2 hour coaching session at their business premises with lean expert Alister Lee from Lean Experience
Participants taking part in the workshop are expected to take part in the industry visits. Coaching sessions will be allocated on a first-in basis upon registration for the workshop.
